Fun Day Fun

IMG_8067On Saturday, we all voted in our federal election.  Our Dear Boy’s school was a polling station and the parents ran a Fun Day to raise money for the school.

IMG_8064With another mum, I ran the Learn to Crochet stall. We had quite a few wee customers.  Interestingly, our customers were a lot younger than I expected. They ranged from 4 to 8 years old. The older kids didn’t come near!

I did a lot of talking about the crochet hook being a magic wand that was going to catch the yarn and make a magic loop. This might well work with grown ups too!

Crochet is quite a feat of co-ordination. You have to hold and tension yarn with the left hand whilst holding the work as well and at the same time, make precise movements with the right hand to make various yarn loops. With a little help keeping the yarn tension, all the kids managed a chain which they wore as a wristband.

There were so many things to do, lots of competitions and rides, sausage sizzle, grilled corn, homemade lemonade, live music, a cake stall, a preserves stall, a craft stall and a second hand bric-a-brac stall.  Unfortunately, I didn’t have a lot of time to take pics, it was a crazy but brilliant day.

IMG_8066Congratulations to all the amazing parents and teachers that made our Fun Day so fun.  It takes an extraordinary amount of work to make something like this happen.  Even the Cupie Dolls were home made!

  1. what a great way to liven up a polling site and make some money for the school!

Learn to crochet is a wonderful idea, and those Kewpie dolls are so creepy/cute 😉

  2. That does sound like a fun day!! Teaching crochet is such a great stall idea. I bet those wristbands are the beginnings of great things. I know you didn’t get many photos but I love the cupie doll in her sparkly cloud of tuile!
